The St Barnabas 5K Colour Dash is back and will be hosted on May 14th 2016.

After last year’s successful debut, the St Barnabas 5K Colour Dash is back and will be hosted by local event coordinators Running Imp on May 14th 2016. This silly fun run is the perfect excuse to set your inner child free. The goal isn’t really about winning or losing, but to get as messy as possible, while raising money for a worthy cause. All of the proceeds will go towards the St Barnabas Hospice in Lincolnshire.

About the St Barnabas Hospice

Formed in 1979 by a small group of people and just £270 of seed money, the initial St Barnabas trust was set up to fund a hospice for the local community. Three years later there was enough money to purchase a nursing home. Over the next decade, both support and demand for the hospice grew, and the St Barnabas charity took over a new building with full inpatient facilities for up to 11 people.

Throughout the 90s the trust expanded to include a further five facilities and 22 shops throughout the country. It has now been 30 years since its inception and the team are stronger than ever with over 1000 volunteers and 280 employees. Fundraising events such as the 5K Colour Dash are crucial for the development of the trust and upkeep of the facilities, which costs in excess of £4 million per year.

Taking Part in the Race

If you want to take part in the race, don’t worry if you haven’t been on the treadmill for a while – it’s not competitive – walking is perfectly okay. That said, if the vibrant colours and feel-good atmosphere of the day gets the best of you, perhaps you could hop, dance or even jog backwards! Just remember, with powdered paint stations at regular intervals, wearing old clothes is advised…

Alternatively, if you’d like to take part, but don’t want to suffer the indignity of being bombarded with powdered paint, you can sign up to become a Colour Pirate for just £10. While a little spillage is inevitable, at least you’ll be on the throwing end instead.

Rules and Regulations

All participants must be at least five years old to take part. However, anybody under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Children registering via the website must also be authorised by a full paying adult during the signup process. Family tickets are available for £50 and include two adults and two children. Adult participation is £20 and child participation is £10. The registration fee covers the welcome pack, sponsorship forms, sunglasses, water bottle, medal, poncho and, of course, your own bag of colour.

If taking part, you can raise money by setting up a Just Giving page via: justgiving.com/stbarnabas. When your profile is complete, you can promote your page using social media, set up a text code and post updates for sponsors – money is sent directly to the trust fund. Every penny raised will go towards benefiting the 8000 plus people throughout the country who are currently supported by the St Barnabas charity.
