Portsmouth is a hub of heritage, culture and fun nestled on the south coast of England. While many people out there already had a summer getaway down in Portsmouth and surrounding areas, the arrival of the autumn and winter months should not mean that you right the area off until next year! There is always plenty to do in Portsmouth, even when the nights draw in quicker and the temperatures decrease!

Sunday Waterside Markets (The Boardwalk, Port Solent):

These delightful markets run from 11:00am to 5:00pm on the third Sunday of each month, and will run until November 15th. You can pick up home furnishings, gifts, handicrafts, jewellery, and all to the backdrop of the glistening waters of the Marina. It’s a splendid way to enjoy the best locally produced items, and also get a look at one of the city’s best seaside retail areas, Port Solent.

“Carmen” at the Kings Theatre (Albert Road):

It is undoubtedly one of the world’s most famous and irresistible operas – Bizet’s “Carmen.” This performance at the Kings Theatre has been described by The Observer as “impassioned and sultry.” Why not pay a visit to Seville while you’re with us in Portsmouth? Call 023-9282-8282 for box office information. You can see the performance on October 1st, starting at 7:30pm.

Guided Walks Around Portsmouth:

One of the best ways to see and enjoy the city is to allow one of the local expert guides take you on a special walk. There are many pre-arranged walks to choose from, or you can discuss a bespoke walk for you and your party. Existing walks include seeing the birthplace of Charles Dickens, the Nelson trail where you visit the places frequented by Admiral Nelson before embarking on his fateful mission to stop the French at Trafalgar – the list goes on.

People’s Stories Coffee Mornings:

From 10:30 to 12:00, make sure you’re at the National Museum of the Royal Navy (located at the Historic Dockyard) to discover some of the amazing people behind the Navy in the past 100 years. Explore their achievements through artifacts and photographs, and what’s more, it’s completely free! Booking is required though, so see the Historic Dockyard website for more information.
