The Isle of Wight boasts an excellent tradition of steam railway.

The Isle of Wight is very famous for its coastal beauty, fine weather, historic buildings and maritime heritage, but did you also know that the island boasts an excellent tradition of steam railway? For the past 40 years, the island has put on a fantastic show of steam trains and family fun, and this year is no exception – welcome to the 41st Island Steam Show!

The show this year runs from August 28th to 31st in Havenstreet, and promises the usual program of steam train rides, traction engine and locomotive displays, as well as vintage cars, old wagons and motorcycles. The kids can enjoy ice cream, and Dad can enjoy a Real Ale pint with the other array of delicious food on offer. Head to the central area, and you’ll also be able to see the incredible performances, including amazing stuntman Jez Avery, who will wow you with wheelies, stoppies, one-wheel driving, two-wheel driving and a lot more – all in his collection of stunt vehicles. Besides this, the kids will also love the Medieval Knights of the Crusade, who battle it out with the sinister Black Knight to prove that the age of chivalry is not dead.

The show is also host to a selection of great live music and local bands, as well as the always entertaining and amusing “Mr. Alexander’s Travelling Show”. Animal lovers can even stop by and see the Bird of Prey show – there really is something for everybody.

The summer holidays are great time off for the kids, but they are also six long weeks you need to fill with fun, activity and excitement. By the end of August, many parents are unsure what to do! The Island Steam Show is the perfect idea for a few days away that the whole family can enjoy. What’s more, Whitecliff Bay is the perfect place to base yourself, both for the show and to see what else the incredible Isle of Wight has to offer. Browse the accommodation deals and book your next stay with us today.
