We heard from one lovely mum that stayed with us at the beautiful Sandy Balls this weekend…she wrote this blog especially for us!

Sandy Balls in the sunshine

It has been a long few months for everyone since Christmas, particularly working in the NHS, so when the husband said let’s get away that’s exactly what I wanted to hear. We all needed a change of scenery…

We had been to Sandy Balls before and had an amazing time, so we decided to go back. This time we treated ourselves to two-nights in a lodge with hot tub! And boy it did not disappoint!

I was feeling pretty anxious about COVID, but it seemed from the website that they had measures in place, and thankfully upon arrival, someone came straight out and handed the keys to us in a bag, nicely sealed, all COVID safe. We didn’t even have to get out the car.

When getting to the accommodation, everything was clean, and we even had a goodie bag filled with some surprises including a bottle of bubbly and some welcome treats. These were different to last time and I have to say much better – we loved the tea!

The kid’s quickly chose the bedrooms they wanted, and as we had booked four rooms, I even had a spare bedroom for all the luggage. Pyjamas unpacked and straight off for dinner (we had headed straight down from school, so the kids were hungry as well as me)

We decided to eat in the Courtyard, at the back of the Woodside Bar. There is a little play area there that the kids climbed on whilst we relaxed. Kid’s had burgers and chips, I had fish & chips and the hubby had a few starters as well as loaded cheese and bacon fries! All came quickly, despite them being fairly busy and it all filled our tummies well.

After a good night’s sleep and some time in the hot tub watching the stars, we headed to mini archery around 10:15am in the morning for the boys. They are 6 & 9 years old, and this was perfect for them. Easy to quickly pick up, and Jack, our activities team leader was super fun and helpful. They were challenged to hit the bullseye and hit the right numbers to make their age. They have both said they would like to do it again!

We then headed back to the lodge to change into swim wear and walk up to the pool. Everything was clean and COVID safe, with not too many people booked onto the session. We booked through the APP the week before arrival.

The afternoon was then filled with more hot tub, a BBQ on the decking, the adventure playgrounds (there’s two – one main one at bottom of development and another in the middle of the development) and then a walk up to the Fighting Cocks Pub for a drink (and another little playground for the kids) As we walked back we ordered takeaway pizza from Aubrey’s and took it back for dinner…delicious! I would recommend the 3 little piggies one!

As we woke up Sunday, we packed up by 10am – ready to leave the park. The kids were desperate to stay but I keep telling them – ‘it’s school tomorrow’! We did however, head to Bournemouth beach where they played in the sand and we had an ice-cream before heading home.

The weekend was just what we needed. A clean, COVID place to stay, with beautifully accommodation, great facilities, and friendly staff.

We will be back!
