Climbing high for a great cause

Ricky and Dave are both very passionate about raising money for their chosen charities: Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and The Stroke Foundation.

Ricky’s charity, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital is one of the busiest children’s hospitals in Europe which treats over 270,000 children each year. He is raising money in memory of his aunt Joan, who was an avid fundraiser for the charity since 1998 when her son received treatment for Angiofibroma (a benign tumour that tends to bleed and occurs in the upper part of the throat of prepubertal and adolescent males) and raised money at every opportunity until she sadly passed away in 2019.

Dave’s charity is The Stroke Association who helped his mum when she suffered a stroke, without which she would never have got through it. The Stroke Foundation funds research into stroke prevention, treatment and aftercare in the UK.

Both charities are extremely worthy causes and we are honoured to be helping in any way we can, but it’s the boys who will be doing all the hard work…

The Challenge

Mount Everest

The backdrop for this gruelling 16-day challenge is the summit of Mount Everest, which stands at a formidable 18,192 ft.

Ricky and Dave will fly from Kathmandu to Lukla and trek upward to the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar which is 11,290 ft, following the valley of the Dudh Kosi river. It takes around two days to reach the village where they will have a day of rest for acclimatisation. They will then trek for another two days to Dingboche which is 13,980 ft before resting for another day for further acclimatisation.

A further two days takes them to the Everest Base Camp via Gorakshep, the flat field below Kala Patthar (18,192 ft) and Mt. Pumori. They will then begin the descent over the following few days.

Golden Sands Holiday Park will be donating £100 for every caravan sold and we will be collecting donations every evening in our entertainment venue. So if you are visiting us and would like to support these wonderful charities then please pop a few pennies in the buckets provided around the park.

Alternatively, if you wish to donate online you can do so here.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us to support Ricky and Dave.

Good luck boys, we will be supporting you every step of the way!
