Join us in Cowes between August 8th and 15th and become a part of Britain’s great maritime history! Since 1826, Cowes has been the home of the Cowes Week Sailing Regatta (officially Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week), and this year promises to be one of its biggest showings ever. It is one of the longest-running and best-known regular regattas in the world, and has grown from its original seven boats to now featuring up to 1,000 boats in 40 daily races with 8,000 or so competitors.
All the events of the regatta happen on the Solent, the beautiful but busy stretch of water between the Isle of Wight and the English mainland. The stretch of water is not only known for its connection to British recreational sailing history, but also globally as a challenging area to traverse owing to its devilishly strong double tides. The event attracts approximately 100,000 spectators every year, who enjoy not only watching the action on the water, but also a full program of local events including live entertainment, Family Day (August 9th), an Outdoor Cinema (August 9th and 12th), Ladies Day (August 11th) and much more. The UK Sailing Association (UKSA) also hosts sailing sessions for young people each day between 10:00am and 4:00pm, and all for a small donation of just £5.
